Skin Cancer and why you should give AF

Skin Cancer and why you should give AF

Skin cancer is the most common cancer in the US, with over 5 million cases diagnosed annually – more than all other cancers combined. But it’s also one of the most preventable.

Here’s what you need to do to practice safe sun:

1️⃣ Sunscreen Every Day: Apply a broad-spectrum SPF 30+ daily, regardless of weather or season. Reapply every 2 hours when outdoors or exposed to UV rays (like if you work indoors next to a window). Find one you love to wear; and wear it EVERY. DAY.

2️⃣ Understand the UV Index: The UV Index measures the intensity of UV rays. A rating of 3 or higher means you need extra protection – sunscreen, shade, and protective clothing.

3️⃣ UPF Clothing: Clothing labeled UPF 30-50+ offers powerful sun protection. Choose long sleeves, wide-brim hats, and UV-blocking sunglasses.

4️⃣ Regular Skin Checks: If you’re seeing a licensed esthetician, most will inform you if they spot anything out of the ordinary. Schedule a full-body skin exam with a dermatologist once a year, or sooner if you notice anything unusual. Monitor your skin for new or changing spots (understand the ABCDE guidelines, seriously google it!) Also anything on your skin consistently scabs, bleeds, or “heals” and comes back in the same spot, get it checked by a medical professional.

Skin cancer can be deadly – but it’s also preventable. Protect your skin. Protect your health. 💛
